BLACKBURN HAWKS 5 - 5 PAISLEY PIRATES

Two ex-Hawks returned to the Arena on Sunday night, looking to put one over their old team, in Bobby Haig, who had served the Hawks for over 10 years, and net minder, Colin Downie.
The game started brightly, with the home team taking the lead in the 2nd minute, through Harry Hall. Minutes later, the lead was doubled, as Sam Dunford was able to close in on goal, before sliding the puck beneath the keeper. However, the Pirates were in no mood to merely make up the numbers, and drew level before the end of the first period, thanks to two well-taken goals.
The second period saw the Hawks re-gain the advantage once again. A long pass out of defence found David Miekle, who in turn crossed for the enrushing Richard Bentham to slot home. Anthony Kinder then created space for himself, and as he advanced on goal, lifted the puck high into the roof of the net. Once again, though, Paisley refused to lie down, and a deflected shot reduced the deficit. In an end to end encounter, it was Blackburn who were able to stretch their lead, as Wayne Slater managed to back-hand the puck over the line whilst on his knees, after some good work by Ollie Lomax.
The 3rd period saw both teams regularly testing the opposing net minders, and it took an outstanding save by Downie to foil Lance Derbyshire, as the home team loooked to kill off the game. This seemed to spur on the Pirates, who were able to find the net twice in the last 20 minutes, to tie the score at the final hooter. Unfortunately, overtime, and penalties did not follow, leaving a feeling amongst many of the crowd that the game had finished unresolved.
MVP went to Aaron 'Special' Davies, for a hard-working display.

BLACKBURN HAWKS 1 - 6 FIFE FLYERS

The local hockey aces were faced with a stern test on
Saturday night, in the form of the Fife Flyers, who are riding high in the
Scottish League. It was a good test of how much the Hawks have improved as a
team this season, and the final score was an unfair reflection of the game.
In a hard-hitting encounter, the Flyers held the upper hand,
regularly testing the rapidly improving Ian Thirkettle in the Hawks net. He and
the home defence worked tirelessly to deny the Scottish forwards, and it took
some classy passing to open them up. It was not all one way traffic, though,
and Daly in the opposing goal was forced into some top-class saves.
As the goal
tally steadily rose, the home team refused to be denied, although it was not
until the final few seconds of the game that they managed to register. David
Miekle worked hard to dispossess the Flyers defenceman in his own zone, before
sliding a pin-point pass in front of the net, for Dusan Kubik to poke it home.
It was 'just' reward for the team, who had given their all for the whole 60
minutes. The MVP was deservedly given to keeper Thirkettle.
